Day Charter in Cannes: Plan Your Day at Sea

A day charter in Cannes rarely reads like an itinerary. It reads more like a loosening of the schedule: the city recedes behind the wake, lunch happens wherever the light looks best, and the only real decision left is which cove to linger in a little longer. Over a morning, an afternoon or a full day, the water becomes the simplest route to everything this coast does well, without the car, the queue or the clock. Here is how to shape yours.

Choosing Your Day Boat

For a few hours or an easy afternoon, our day boats are the simplest way in. Smaller, quicker and built for spontaneity, boats like these cover the short distance to the Lerins Islands in minutes rather than deliberation. A skipper is included as standard, the same as on every boat in our fleet, so the only thing you need to arrange beforehand is the mood you are after: a lazy drift with a book, or a faster run out to somewhere new.

A Full Day Afloat

When a few hours is not quite enough, a flybridge yacht gives the day room to breathe. There is space to move between the open deck and the shade, a galley for lunch to be prepared as you go, and enough range to string together two or three stops rather than one. Families and groups tend to find their rhythm here: swimming before noon, a long lunch at anchor, and a slower run home as the light turns gold over the bay.

Where the Day Can Take You

The Lerins Islands remain the natural first stop: pine-covered, car-free, and close enough that you can be swimming off Sainte-Marguerite within twenty minutes of leaving the harbour. From there, many days drift on to La Guerite, the sandbank restaurant where boats moor for lunch within sight of the islands, or further along the coast to the quieter waters off Golfe-Juan. None of it needs fixing in advance. A good skipper reads the wind and the crowd and adjusts the plan accordingly, so the day stays yours to shape rather than follow.

Where You Will Set Off

Most day charters begin at either Vieux Port, in the heart of Cannes beneath the Suquet, or Port Canto, a short walk from the Croisette’s hotels and closer to open water. Both put you within easy reach of the Lerins Islands and Golfe-Juan, so the choice tends to come down to where you are staying rather than the day itself. Joining from a hotel along the Croisette usually means Port Canto is the shorter run; from the old town or the station, Vieux Port is a few minutes on foot. Either way, your skipper will confirm the exact berth and timing a day or two before you sail.

What Comes With You

Every charter, from the smallest day boat to a full-size superyacht, arrives with its own skipper and crew. That is not an upgrade, it is simply how we arrange every booking, so no one aboard needs to stay sober to get the boat home or worry about who is watching it while the group goes ashore. Catering can be arranged through our concierge team ahead of time, from a simple picnic to a full lunch service, and most boats carry some combination of snorkelling gear, paddleboards and inflatables for whenever the mood turns to the water itself rather than the view of it.

Timing the Day

Mornings reward an early start: calmer water, quieter anchorages, and the islands largely to yourselves before the first ferries arrive. Afternoons suit a slower pace, drifting from a late lunch into the soft hour before sunset, when the bay empties out and Cannes starts to glow from the water. Between April and October, both work equally well. Outside that window, a shorter afternoon run still has its own appeal, with the coastline at its most private and the light at its most considered.

Planning Ahead

A day on the water is one of the easiest things to arrange and one of the easiest to get exactly right, provided the basics are settled early: the boat, the headcount, and anything you would like waiting for you on board. Our charter guide is a good place to start if you are weighing up size and style, and our concierge team can take care of the rest, from catering to a florist’s touch for a celebration at sea. However you spend it, a day charter in Cannes has a way of resetting the rest of the trip. Book early for high season, then let the sea decide the finer details.
